The Heart Behind the Art: Rochelle
Rochelle Hajjar, a young Catholic Lebanese woman, born and raised in Sydney, whose deepest desire is to glorify God through the creative gifts He has entrusted to her.
Striving to serve God through the beauty of art, produces the heart beat for StudioR, where she uses her creative gifts to Design, Sculpt, & Glorify. Rochelle approaches art not merely as creative expression but as a spiritual offering — a practice rooted in prayer, discernment, and devotion.

Rochelle's artistic vision was shaped by her background in architecture, where she developed a deep understanding of structure, space, and symbolism. This architectural foundation now informs her sculptural language, allowing her works to embody both physical precision and spiritual depth. Her sculptures seek to move beyond intellectual comprehension, inviting viewers into moments of reflection that point toward the divine.
Rochelle believes that beauty in art is a divine gift, an instantaneous language that speaks to the human heart. Through texture, form, and the mystery of her creations, her plaster sculptures invite curiosity, drawing people deeper into the meaning and source of true beauty, which will always lead to the divine. Her choice of plaster is deliberate, it allows her to shape works beyond human comprehension, capturing moments that transcend the superficial and point toward the eternal.

Her artistic journey took definitive form with her first major work, His Garment, a sculptural representation inspired by the garment of Jesus Christ and the Christian symbolism of redemption, healing, and encounter. The piece marked the emergence of her distinctive artistic practice — one that merges sacred narrative with contemporary sculptural form. His Garment was later acquired internationally in Texas, USA, signaling the beginning of Rochelle’s global reach.

Rochelle’s work has received notable recognition within the Catholic community, including appointment and encouragement from the Maronite Bishop of Australia, who remarked:
“Rochelle reminds me of the writers of the icons who fast, pray, prepare and meditate before beginning their art to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.”
This spiritual discipline lies at the heart of her practice as she approaches art as an act of devotion, preparing inwardly before shaping outward form. For her, sculpture becomes a bridge between material and mystery, inviting viewers into contemplation of the divine.
